Come out to Mikerphone Brewing on Saturday May 11th and Celebrate 3 Decades of Amazing Concert Poster Art with 4 Legends of the Industry:

Steve Walters

A Chicagoland local and Industry pioneer Steve has been bringing his characteristic wit, humility, DIY ethos and artistic flair to Chicago and the Concert Poster scene for over 30 years. Founder of Screwball Press and widely considered to be the Godfather of Screenprinted Rock and Roll Posters in Chicago the breadth and impact of Steve’s work is hard to overstate. Almost everybody who’s done work in Chicago has come through Screwball or been influenced by Screwball Press. Music has always been a big part of Steve’s life and the Music world is all the better for it!

Joey Lala

Chicago native and long-time Mount Prospect local Joey Lala’s art springs from the intersection of skateboarding, graffiti, music and acrylic paint. Layers of texture, text and color leap from whatever surface he might choose for his unique and original hand painted artwork. Joey is also one of the founders and organizers of the 56 Music Fix: a free-to-all, multi-location, 3 day celebration of Live Music, Art and local Mount Prospect businesses that’s going into it’s sixth year.

Dan Grzeca

Dan Grzeca is a Chicago artist, printmaker, and illustrator.  SInce 1992 he has produced thousands of illustrations, hand silkscreened prints, and posters for such a long list of bands and clients it might be easier to name who he HASN’T worked with ( the Black Keys, Iron and Wine, Low, Built To Spill, Smashing Pumpkins, Ween, Alabama Shakes, U2, Mogwai, Thursday, Phish, Explosions in the Sky, and many, MANY more…) He has shown his work nationally and internationally in galleries and annually at the SXSW Flatstock exhibtion in Austin TX. Chicagoland Beer enthusiasts may also recognize his distinctive artistic style from the many, MANY awesome beer label designs he’s done for Hop Butcher for the World!

Jay Ryan

Much like Dan: it may be easier to name noted Bands Jay HASN’T worked with over the years: prints for bands HUM, Andrew Bird, Dinosaur Jr, and Shellac (among many MANY others!) vibrant with color and detail, not to mention his work for noted films like Star Wars, Iron Giant and Moonrise Kingdom. From his Skokie print shop ‘The Bird Machine’ Jay has established a reputation for hand-drawn text and a computer-free design process. His prints aim to attain the same goals as other concert posters, but using raccoons and toasters instead of skulls, breasts and hot rods. Jay learned about screenprinting from Steve Walters at Screwball Press in late 1995 and has been adding his artistic style and flair to both the music and art worlds ever since. From Pavement to Pelican Jay’s artwork pops with color, creativity and character.
